What Are Ad Impressions?

An ad impression generally represents an instance where an advertisement is served or displayed to a user. Publishers use ad impressions to measure the volume of advertising inventory generated by their websites, applications and other digital properties.

How Are Ad Impressions Calculated?

Estimated ad impressions can be calculated by multiplying page views by the number of advertising placements available on each page. Fill rate can then be applied to estimate how many of those opportunities actually result in served ads.

Example Ad Impression Calculation

If a website receives 10,000 visitors per day, each visitor views 2.5 pages and each page contains 3 advertising placements, the website has approximately 75,000 daily ad opportunities before applying fill rate.

Why Fill Rate Matters

Not every advertising opportunity necessarily results in a served advertisement. Fill rate represents the percentage of available ad opportunities that are successfully filled with advertising demand.

Ad Impressions and Publisher Revenue

Ad impressions are one of the factors used when evaluating advertising revenue. Revenue can also depend on CPM, geography, audience quality, ad format, viewability, demand competition, device type and advertiser demand.

Important Note

This calculator provides an estimate rather than a guaranteed advertising forecast. Actual impression volume and revenue may vary depending on website traffic patterns, ad refresh settings, lazy loading, ad blockers, viewability, demand availability and other factors.
